If you are travelling by car and driving to the lake from the north, the best place to park is in Merseburg in the Töbelen car park for 7 euros a day. There are plenty of parking spaces there. From there you go to the boat departure point towards Mainau (not the car ferry, which is on the western tip of Merseburg, we are on the eastern tip). A combination ticket takes you to the flower island, which you should plan to visit in around 4 hours.
