Glacial pothole in Livonsaari - Finnish "Hiidenkirnu"

The Hiidenkirnu is a kettle-shaped depression that was created during the Ice Age. It is estimated that it was born about 8,000 to 7,500 years ago. In the 1920s it was somewhat damaged when the landowner filled it with stones. He was afraid that the sheep would use it as a watering hole and fall in there. The Kirnu was reopened in the 1950s when the stones were removed and at the same time the actual "maker" of Kirnu, namely the turning stone, also disappeared.
