Atalante is a figure from Greek mythology.
It is said that the Calydonians had neglected to offer a sacrifice to the goddess Artemis at the harvest festival. As punishment, the goddess sent a huge wild boar that devastated the fields, attacked people and filled all the inhabitants of the city of Calydon with fear.
King Oinos therefore called on the heroes of Greece to kill the boar together with his son Meleagros. Atalante was the only woman to take part in the hunt. After initially failing to kill the boar, Atalante managed to seriously wound the boar with an arrow, after which Meleagros managed to kill the boar.
Meleagros gave Atalante, with whom he was in love, the head and skin of the boar, which led to a bitter argument among the other heroes of the hunt. Meleagros died in the process.
The figure of Atalante is made of lead and is gold-plated.
