A dead ice hole is a depression in the terrain created when a large block of ice was broken off from the glacier (this is the dead ice, which, unlike the glacier, is no longer moving) and then traversed by the glacier along with its moraine. When the ice thawed after the last ice age, a depression in the terrain formed at this location, in which the lake formed.
