The toponym of Daimús comes from the Arabic dāmús (or daymús) which means 'cave' or 'cistern'. There is evidence of Roman settlement in the Hort del Comte and the tomb of Baebiae Quietae which could have been the Roman city of Artemision. In any case, the origin of the current town is a Muslim village attached to the castle of Bairén. Until 1535 it belonged to Gandia. After the expulsion of the Moors, it was repopulated by charter of 1612. It was part of the lordship of the counts of Almenara until the 19th century.
