The Unterreichenbach railway bridge over the Nagold is not only the town's landmark but also an underrated architectural highlight.
It was built for the Württemberg State Railway in 1874; manufactured from steel by the Esslinger Maschinenfabrik. With a length of 64m and a span almost as large, it is one of the largest structures in Baden-Württemberg based on the design principle of a Schwedler girder (named after its inventor, the Berlin civil engineer Johann Wilhelm Schwedler) and is therefore an absolute rarity.
It is probably the only original Schwedler girder in Germany that has been preserved. The innovative construction saves material without compromising on stability.translated by•November 29, 2024
