It was founded in 1894 in response to a need experienced by the Sisters of Vincent de Paul and the parish clergy as early as 1846 among the population of the hamlet of Markhove: the distance from the center of Kortemark was preventing children from attending school.
Therefore, in 1860, a school was opened in a purchased house. When the road to Ichtegem was straightened, new buildings were constructed on the grounds of the "Markhove estate."
