The Muro church tower is probably the only free-standing church tower on the island. This type of architectural style is otherwise widespread in Italian Tuscany. The design also suggests that the tower used to have a protective function as a place of last resort.Note: If you take a close look at the church in Sineu, you will quickly see that the church tower is not connected to the nave either, and that there is a passage between the church and the tower. So there are at least two free-standing tower churches on the island.
