Álora Castle, located on the Cerro de las Torres, has a rich history that spans from its Phoenician and Roman origins to its reconstruction by the Arabs, who turned it into a residence and citadel. The structure has undergone various stages of construction, from the Emirate to the Kingdoms of Taifas.

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación stands on the old mosque, built between 1600 and 1699. The castle was damaged in the earthquake of 1680 and, since then, served as a cemetery. Although only two partially reconstructed towers and a horseshoe arch in the wall remain standing today, the site was declared a National Historic Monument in 1931.

On the way from Málaga to El Chorro / Royal Road Caminito del Rey, be sure to pass through Alora with its beautiful Arabian castle!
From the Arabian castle you have a great view of El Torcal, the Huma and the El Chorro gorge.
In Alora there are also great local products, such as the registered olive variety Aloreña, delicious red wine, various herbal honeys and goat, sheep and cow cheese, not forgetting Pan Cateto!
