Cīrulīši Cave is a truly unique relict from the Ice Age. It developed 13 thousand years ago, when the River Gauja Valley was still entirely covered by an ice sheet. The cave was washed out in sandstone when glacial melt-water, under high pressure below the ice, sought a way out of the valley. Most likely, part of the water seeped rapidly upwards through the sandstone, dissolving the rock and creating a cave. Nowadays, the cave is about 6m deep, the space within corresponding to a fairly large hall: 12-15 m wide and 7 m long. People say that some time ago the cave was much deeper and gave access to a ravine more than 100 m away.

It is strictly forbidden to climb into the cave, in order to preserve it. Also - locals say snakes use the cave as a place for hiding.
