The Zeeland Bird Boulevard stretches along the south coast of Schouwen-Duiveland and offers ideal conditions for bird watching. This region is characterized by its tranquility, spaciousness and diverse habitats, such as the inlets and mudflats that attract numerous bird species. The most common birds include the lapwing, avocet, spoonbill, oystercatcher and black-headed gull. Many species use the area for breeding, wintering or as a resting place during migration. The Plan Tureluur nature reserves and the Oosterschelde National Park in particular are known for their rich bird life. Large colonies of coastal and wading birds can be found here, and at low tide the exposed sandbanks offer ideal feeding places. Cycle paths that follow the junction system make it easy to explore the region by bike. Starting points for a tour are Zierikzee or Burgh-Haamstede, for example, from where you can enjoy the region's diverse natural offerings.
