The church of San Giuliano Martire overlooks Piazza Francesco Cangemi. It is a "very ancient" church. It was erected as a parish in 1619, following a dismemberment of the Mother Church district. It was the seat of the Congregation of the Holy Souls of Purgatory founded in 1572 and of the company of Our Lady of the Rosary, founded in 1667. It was enlarged in 1676. Rebuilt in the early 19th century, it suffered serious damage from the earthquake of 1968. Restored, it was reopened for worship in 1979.
