Just a stone's throw away from the archway that marks the entrance to "Gut Schillingscapellen" is a bricked-up wayside shrine. A look inside, which is protected from unauthorized access by a grille, does not make it clear who it is dedicated to: on the one hand there is a small wooden icon (more precisely a triptych), on the other hand a plaque with an inscription to Saint Hermann-Josef. The latter is particularly venerated in the Rhineland region, in Cologne under the - by no means negative - nickname "Appel-Jupp" (i.e. "Apple-Josef"). The later saint spent his childhood in Cologne and offered his apple (which his parents gave him as food for school) to a Madonna statue there. Legend has it that one day Mary accepted this apple. He spent his monastic life in the Steinfeld Basilica (North Eifel), where his grave is also located. Both the Madonna statue in Cologne and his grave in Steinfeld Monastery are actually always seen with apples that are placed there in memory of him.
