The Küstenkanal
Significance
The Küstenkanal in northern Emsland is a through waterway between the Weser and Ems. It was built between 1921 and 1935 through an extensive raised bog area that lay between the Hunte and the Ems. The construction of the canal made it possible to drain, cultivate, develop and settle this area. Even today, the Küstenkanal is the main receiving water for this area.
Route description
The Küstenkanal begins near Oldenburg and runs in an east-west direction until it joins the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Dörpen (DEK km 202.55).
