The grieving woman and the memorial plaque have been remembering the dead and victims of the First World War from Dorfweil since 1929. Later, a plaque was also attached with the names of the hamlets that fell in World War II. The sculpture, created by August Bischoff, born in 1876, died in 1965, shows a sitting female figure in mourning.
After training at the Hanau State Drawing Academy from 1890 to 1896, Bischoff studied at the Städelsche Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt am Main from 1901 to 1904.
