Just outside the town of Arnstein lies the old parish and pilgrimage church "Our Lady of the Rosary", popularly known as Maria Sondheim. The strange location on the other side of the Wernau is explained by the fact that there must have been an older church here before Arnstein was founded.

The predecessor building of the current church was first mentioned in 1307. In 1339, the "Suntheim" church even appeared in documents as the ecclesiastical center for the newly founded town of Arnstein. The current late Gothic church building was begun in the middle of the 15th century and only completed at the beginning of the 16th century. Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn had the flat ceiling installed in 1605. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Maria Sondheim was of great importance as the burial place of the von Hutten family, who lived in Arnstein, and their magnificent epitaphs still adorn the nave today. Also impressive is the huge ceiling painting by Johann Philipp Rudolph, which depicts the naval battle of Lepanto and thus draws a connection to the church's consecrated name.

But it is the old image of grace that attracts pilgrims and visitors in particular. The colorful Pietà from around 1470, which has stood on a modern stele since 2002, radiates deep pain and quiet greatness despite its simplicity. Not least for this reason, it is a contact point for people in a wide variety of needs and worries.
