Urban central square in the brutalist style. A huge central building, topped by the tower of the town hall, dominates the lower square, which is lined with uniform, large buildings with colonnades. In front of the central building there are numerous water fountains arranged in rows, which promise refreshment on hot days. To the front, an underpass leads under two bridges (the second is part of a colossal war memorial) to Rue de Siam, Brest's magnificent boulevard, which stretches down to the harbor.
