When Nolde bought Seebüll in 1927, there was only green grassland around the empty terp. To make a little paradise bloom, the Noldes mixed the existing Kleisoden (drained silt) with sand and peat to improve the quality of the soil for the growth of flowers, shrubs, shrubs and fruit and vegetable plants. A reed fence protects the plants and bushes from the west wind. The paths through the flower garden trace the couple's initials, A and E - connected by a bird bath with a water feature. From April to October, numerous perennial plants bloom in the Seebüll garden: irises, delphinium, Turkish poppies, cranesbills, lupins and many others.
Sitting in the garden, Nolde painted virtuoso watercolors of great luminosity and great intensity. In contrast, he mostly painted his flower pictures in oil in his studio

Wherever Emil and Ada Nolde settled, they created a garden according to their own ideas. When Nolde bought Seebüll in 1927, there was only green grassland around the empty mound. To allow a small paradise to blossom, the Noldes mixed the existing kleisodes (drained silt) with sand and peat to improve the quality of the soil for the growth of flowers, perennials, shrubs and fruit and vegetable plants. A thatched fence protects the plants and shrubs from the west wind. The paths through the flower garden trace the couple's initials, A and E - connected by a birdbath with a water feature. From April to October, numerous perennial plants bloom in the Seebüll garden: irises, delphiniums, Turkish poppies, cranesbills, lupins and many others.

Sitting in the garden, Nolde painted virtuoso watercolors of great luminosity and intensity. In contrast, he mostly painted his flower paintings in oil in his studio.

“The colors of the flowers attracted me irresistibly… the purity of these colors, I loved them…” (Emil Nolde)

The garden is an individual work of garden art by Emil Nolde (1867-1956).
