Westminster Abbey in London is an architectural and historical masterpiece steeped in England's history. Located in the heart of the capital, just steps from Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the abbey is a must-see destination for visitors who want to explore the country's cultural and religious history.

Westminster Abbey's Gothic architecture is impressive. The high vaulted ceilings, intricately designed stained glass windows and lavishly decorated chapels are testament to the craftsmanship of centuries past. Particularly noteworthy is the beauty of Henry VII's Lady Chapel, a jewel of late Gothic architecture known for its intricate fan vaults.

Westminster Abbey is more than just an architectural marvel, however. It has been the traditional site of the coronation of English monarchs since 1066 and is home to the burial places of numerous notable figures, including kings, queens, poets and scientists. The Poets' Corner is particularly famous as the final resting place of literary greats such as Geoffrey Chaucer, Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling.

A visit to the Abbey also offers a deep insight into England's religious and political history. From the lavish coronation ceremonies to the moving commemorations of deceased monarchs and national heroes, the Abbey has been the setting for numerous historical events that have shaped the country.

In addition, Westminster Abbey offers a rich cultural programme that includes concerts, exhibitions and guided tours. Participating in one of the Choral Evensongs is particularly recommended to fully experience the stunning acoustics and spiritual atmosphere of the place.

Overall, Westminster Abbey is a place of unparalleled historical and cultural significance that attracts visitors from all over the world. Your visit is not only a journey into the past, but also an impressive experience that celebrates the majestic beauty and rich heritage of England.

The Westminster Abbey is one of the most impressive churches I have ever visited. If you want to get a free look inside, you can go to Evensong at 5pm. To avoid being last in line, it is advisable to arrive at around 4.15/4.30pm. Bag checks!!
