In 1985, the Munich artist Christian Mayer (Tobin) created the St. Wendel ball fountain. An irregularly furrowed stone block rises from a flat fountain basin, the spring stone or base stone made of black syenite from South Africa. The special feature of this fountain design is the 4-ton turquoise amazonite granite ball studded with reddish coloring, which floats above the middle of the base stone on a wafer-thin layer of water emerging from a hollow. Due to the pressure of the bubbling water, the granite ball rotates repeatedly in all directions around its own axis, which is made clear by the red color spots.
