The fish lift system consists of two vertically positioned tubes in which the water level between the upper and lower water is equalized by filling or emptying. When the tube fills with water, the water-filled lift cage inside rises and transports the fish upwards. The tube is then emptied and the lift cage descends again. The two tubes are operated alternately so that fish willing to migrate can always find a “free” lift.

At the Werden lock or the weir on Lake Baldeney there is a unique fish elevator (fish ladder or fish lift system).
The system consists of two tubes with lift baskets that transport the fish upwards, one in and one out. You can see more details in the attached pictures :-)
