This pretty half-timbered house is not only one of the five oldest in Thuringia, but also boasts the title of being the "oldest half-timbered house in Schmalkalden". The house has undergone numerous structural changes over the centuries without losing its late medieval character. Since August 2013, after extensive renovation work, the town of Schmalkalden has been proud to present today's half-timbered experience house to the public. Discover: vaulted cellars, living rooms, staircases, crawl space, facade, wall and wall structures, front house and backyard designs as well as the connection between historical and new architecture. On the ground floor of the house there is also the small gallery in which regional artists show their works and exhibits.

The folding shutters, the three-part door and much more can also be seen from the outside. Entry to the museum is free!
