The current Guardian Angel Chapel was built in 1803-04 by Martin Elgass from Allgäu, the master builder of the Einsiedeln monastery, and replaced a small previous building from 1644, which in turn had been preceded by an even older sanctuary. After various redesigns and restorations in 1955 and 1990, the Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary on the choir arch, the two side altars painted on the wall and the illusionistic ceiling painting can be seen again. The high altar from 1849 is decorated with a guardian angel picture by Melchior Paul Deschwanden. Franz Xaver Zücher copied this in 1852 for the Guardian Angel Chapel in Baar. It can be lowered so that a guardian angel statue can be seen in the altar niche.

Right next to the chapel, which has belonged to the Lorze neighborhood since 1802, there was one of the area's execution sites, probably since the 15th century, as well as a small cemetery for those executed and those who committed suicide. As early as 1400, the city of Zug acquired the so-called blood ban from King Wenceslas, i.e. the right to punish those who did wrong with death. In 1847, two days before Christmas, the last death sentence was carried out at this spot. Behind the choir of the chapel, a wrought iron cross commemorates the people executed here.
