The Axel water tower is one of the highest water towers in the Netherlands, with its 60.6 metres in height.
From the ground floor, you get an excellent impression of the cathedral height and the twelve impressive concrete columns that form the skeleton of the tower. The water tower is set up as an exhibition space on the ground floor. Exhibitions in particular are organised here in which nature is central.
Are you sporty? Then seize your chance and climb the 264 steps to the top where you have a magnificent view of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
The tower can be climbed via an indoor staircase. Above the first leak floor at a height of 28 metres, there is a water reservoir of 300 m³ that can be viewed via a footbridge. From the second leak floor at a height of approximately 50 metres, you have a magnificent view of the Axel creeks and the surrounding landscape and recreation area. At this height you also get an impression of the size of the two upper reservoirs, which together have a capacity of 1,000 m³. There is also a clean water cellar of 250 m³. The whole is covered here by a 10-metre high concrete shell that is covered with copper on the outside. The oxidised copper is the cause of the green-coloured top of the tower.
Opening hours: last Wednesday in April to the end of September from Wed. to Fri. 13:30 - 17:00 and on Sat. from 13:00 - 16:30. In October only open on Saturdays. Last opening day of the season 29 October: Night of the night.
    Admission is free.
