In the late Middle Ages, the Breite Tor was the most important city gate in the mining and Hanseatic city of Goslar. It was built in 1443 and subsequently expanded into a bulwark, which alone put many ordinary castle complexes in the shade.
The interior of the building can also be viewed as part of a city tour.
