The castle is privately owned. A visit is probably not possible

Great tour on the trail with beautiful climbs and great runs. Especially the way from the castle Ludwigseck through the forest to Braach is like a small racetrack. Very curvy and steadily downhill.

Schloss Ludwigseck is a castle in the municipality of Ludwigsau in the Hessfeld-Rotenburg district of eastern Hesse. It was built at the beginning of the 15th century as a castle.

Schloss Ludwigseck is one of the last fortified castles built in Germany.

Namesake is Landgrave Ludwig I who destroyed the former castle in the Thirty Years' War, rebuilt in 1677 as Castle Ludwigseck.

By succession, the castle came in the 1980s in the possession of the family of and to Gilsa. She now lives on the estate and is committed to the restoration and preservation of the castle. Today the Riedesel or the Gilsa with the lock Ludwigseck are registered in the matriculation of the Althessische Ritterschaft.
