Wenningstedt-Braderup is a charming community on the island of Sylt, which is divided into the districts of Wenningstedt on the west coast and Braderup on the east coast. Historically significant, the area is believed to have been settled as early as the Viking Age. The first documented mention of Wenningstedt dates back to 1462. Braderup, mentioned a little later, is one of the island's younger settlements.

Wenningstedt has developed into a popular holiday destination since the 19th century. It has been officially recognized as a seaside resort since 1859 and classified as a North Sea resort since 1960. This development was largely driven by the emergence of tourism and the construction of holiday homes and hotels. Today, the local economy is heavily dependent on tourism, which is reflected in numerous restaurants, hotels and leisure facilities.

A highlight in Wenningstedt is the Denghoog megalithic tomb, an impressive prehistoric monument that gives visitors an insight into the region's early history. The town also offers a variety of leisure activities such as mudflat hikes, cycling tours and water sports. The west beach in particular is a popular place for sun worshippers and surfers.

The architecture in Wenningstedt is characterized by traditional Frisian houses with thatched roofs and modern holiday homes. The change from a fishing village to a tourist resort is also reflected in the infrastructural development, with newly built streets and squares that are specifically designed to meet the needs of guests.
