The place Wiedlisbach was first mentioned in 1275 as a city. The foundation and city charter - probably due to its strategic location on the north-south trade routes - is expected to be around 1240. The town is located on the road from Basel via Solothurn to Biel and includes next to the main street a parallel side street. It was surrounded by a ring wall. In the northwest corner stands the city lite tower (seat of the joyful Vogt), near the northeast corner the chapel. The town belonged ecclesiastically to the parish Oberbipp. Customs and market have been proven since the 14th century. From the area around Wiedlisbach numerous Bronze Age, Roman and early medieval finds are known.

After the place founded by the Counts of Frohburg place as a pawn changed hands several times, he came in 1463 definitely to the then state and present canton of Bern. In 1487 a hospital was donated. In the 16th century lived about 250 inhabitants in the town, in the 18th century about 500. With a three-day festival in June 2005 Wiedlisbach celebrated its 750th anniversary.
