The hermitage, located next to the Compás viewpoint, was excavated in the rock by a Carmelite monk in the second half of the 17th century. In it is the image of the Virgen de la Peña, patron saint of Mijas, who according to legend was discovered in 1586 by two shepherd children who were guided to the place by a dove.
