The painter, sculptor and altar builder Michael Pacher was probably born between 1430 and 1435 in the Puster Valley.
In Bruneck he was granted citizenship and master craftsman rights, and he ran a workshop here, probably from 1460; Pacher is documented from 1467. His wife Ottilia probably came from Bruneck, her sister Christina was married to the Bruneck citizen Wilhelm Burgstaller. In Bruneck Michael Pacher owned a house in Stadtgasse, namely the Stiflerhaus No. 99 (today Neuhauserhaus, Stadtgasse No. 29).
