A piece of track and a stone tablet indicate that the first public rail link on the European continent once ran from Linz to Budweis. The salt transport from the Salzkammergut was certainly an important reason for this railway. Soon the first steam locomotives appeared and this route was not suitable for them. So today it serves as a leisurely walk.
