The Puig de Bassegoda or simply the Bassegoda (or the Puig, as it is known by the few inhabitants of the area) is a peak located between the municipalities of Montagut and Oix, in the region of La Garrotxa and Albanyà in the region of 'Alt Empordà, with 1,373.7 meters of altitude.[1] Its characteristic pointed shape, its height and the fact that it is isolated from other nearby peaks make it easily identifiable. At the foot of the Bassegoda hill on its north-eastern slope, the Borró river, a tributary of the Fluvià, is born.

The toponym Bassegoda can be translated from the current Basque. We have the words basa or baso, which mean 'wild, brutal' or 'forest, jungle', and goiti, which means 'summit, height'; thus Basagoiti would be translated as 'wild summit' or 'high forest'. Its summit is an absolutely rocky lookout with excellent views from Golf de Roses to Canigó.
