The Zwochauer See is a residual open-cast mining lake 9 km southwest of Delitzsch and 21 km northwest of Leipzig in Saxony. It emerged from a smaller remaining pit of the Delitzsch-Südwest open-cast mine, which was closed in 1993, and is located in the municipality of Wiedemar in the district of North Saxony. It is part of the Saxon Lake District. The lake has been flooded since 1998, and the flooding period is planned to last until 2054. The source of the flooding water is a natural groundwater rise. The aim is to create a bathing water under mesotrophic to eutrophic conditions. The following fish species can be found in the lake: eel, perch, lead, gibel, pike, crucian carp, carp, roach and rudd.[1]
