Remstal Viaduct is the railway connection between Wablingen and Neustadt-Hohenacker

The Remstal Viaduct between Waiblingen and Neustadt was built between 1875-76 and crosses the Rems between Neustadt and Hohenacker. The viaduct is part of the Murrtalbahn, 45 m high, 240 m long and was opened in 1876. Neustadt got its own train station.
On April 21, 1945, a section of the viaduct was completely senselessly blown up by members of the Wehrmacht. The viaduct was repaired by installing an auxiliary pillar by the summer of 1946.
The Murrtalbahn was expanded and electrified with two tracks between Waiblingen and Schwäbisch Hall in 1965. It is now part of the Stuttgart - Nuremberg rail link.
In 1981 the Neustadt-Hohenacker station was connected to the S-Bahn.

Industrialization in the 19th century forced the town of Backnang and the towns behind it in the Murr Valley to be connected to a rail network from both the direction of Stuttgart and Schwäbisch Hall, Crailsheim and Nuremberg.
Around 1870, the Württemberg Chamber decided not to route via Ludwigsburg or Bietigheim / Marbach, but for the alternative Waiblingen / Winnenden. Planning for the Remstal Viaduct and the tunnel near Schwaikheim began in 1871. On October 26, 1876, the opening of the Murrbahn to Backnang was celebrated. (Source: Neustadt memories)
