    This is a pretty spectacular climb. It is quite a long and hard climb, but the view from the top is absolutely immaculate! The road surface is smooth gravel that is perfectly fine on a road bike in dry conditions. Compared to neighbouring Col de Sarenne, which is tarmac, this is much nicer. From here you can go back the same way you came up or continue along the plateau and down towards Lac du Chambon. That road is not so smooth, but doable on a road bike with with good brakes and a little wider than average tyres.
