This 700 year old majestic Japanese red pine towers among cherry trees above the Kawai Fault Saddle of the Japanese Median Tectonic Line in Oshika Village, Southern Nagano Prefecture. According to a local legend a baby princess in the nearby Surugi Castle, could not sleep and was crying in the night, keeping the people in the surrounding hamlet awake. When local farmers put branches from this tree under her pillow she stopped crying and feel asleep quickly. The road up here is pretty steep, you can rent an e-bike and buy refreshments at Shionosato Visitor Center. The tree is a natural monument of Oshika and one of the seven mysteries of Kashio.
