The hamlet of Theil is as old as the town of Coulommiers, it is characterized by the concentration of Briarde houses that can be seen there. The wash house located on this small square has been restored. It is no longer used now, but before the 19th century, laundry was done there once a year, after the Easter holidays. In the 19th century, it was done there in spring and autumn. From the 20th century, it was forbidden to wash during Holy Week, during the three days before Ascension, All Souls' Day and Friday.
