Deep in the Wermsdorf Forest, where nature quietly and majestically unfolds its beauty, lies the Carlsteich, known as the "Silver Lake". Its history goes back to 1939, when the then district forester Carl Redlich had the Altenhainer Bach dammed to create a fire pond, which is now named after him. The steep banks of the lake, which was created by the artificial damming, offer a contrasting frame for the mirror-smooth water surface, which seems to shine like silver on moonlit nights, which gives rise to the second, poetic name "Silver Lake".

Inviting for nature lovers and hikers, the area around the Carlsteich has been equipped with several rest areas by the Sachsenforst, inviting you to linger and enjoy the surrounding nature. For those who would like to experience the Silbersee in a larger context, the 10km Collmer 8 tour on my profile is a good option, which takes you through the beauties of the surrounding area and past the Silbersee.
