Roanne station was opened in 1858 with the Lapalisse-Saint-Prix–Le Coteau section of the Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons–Lyon-Perrache railway line.[6] Today, the station is mainly served by trains of the TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on the Clermont-Ferrand–Lyon-Perrache line.
