The new Atlantic Waterfront created in 2002 as part of a comprehensive process of urban renewal of the former industrial area of Matosinhos. The intervention involved key figures of Porto Architecture School, such as Álvaro Siza (Pritzker Prize, 1992) and Alcino Soutinho, as well as Eduardo Souto de Moura (Pritzker Prize 2011) who transformed the waterfront into one of the most cherished public spaces of the Porto Metropolitan Area: a broad coastal promenade, 19 meters wide and 740 meters long.
