Between October 24 and 27, 2002, the XXVIII National Congress of the Royal Spanish Association of Official Chroniclers took place in Altea. On the last day of the Congress, with the lights of the autumn sunset, a plaque was inaugurated that gave its name to what we know today as the Cronistas de España Viewpoint, from which you can perfectly see the bay of Altea and part of its old town, as well as like the church right behind.

The Mirador de los Cronistas de España, also known as Mirador de la Muralla, is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Altea. It's located in the highest part of the old town. From the small platform, you're treated to a breathtaking view of the whitewashed houses, the bay of Altea, the Mediterranean Sea, and – on a clear day – as far as the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe or the skyline of Benidorm. The path to the viewpoint leads through narrow, cobbled streets, with the last stretch accessible only on foot.
