Arnstein Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the edge of the Harz Mountains and is located in the Mansfeld-Südharz district in Saxony-Anhalt. The ruin stands on a 210 m above sea level elevation between the towns of Sylda and Harkerode, south of Aschersleben and northwest of Hettstedt. In the 12th century, the medieval fortifications became the castle of the Lords of Arnstein with its impressive, tower-like palace that can be seen from afar. Since the 19th century, it has been known nationwide as a romantic ruin.
