Tips
The Egger Alm, with its rustic ensemble of huts, is a popular excursion destination that can be reached from Hermagor. From the Alm at 1,416 meters, the Eggeralm state road L23, which is now closed, used to lead eastwards to Vorderberg, where it reached the Gailtal again.Once you get to the top, it's worth staying longer: the Alm inn also runs a cheese dairy, so a lunch stop is actually a must. In good weather, you can enjoy a great panoramic view of the Julian and Carnic Alps, the Hohe Tauern and sometimes even the Dolomites.
