The Stort nature reserve on the Scheldt bank is a salt marsh area that was originally used for vine or wiss cultivation (these are used for weaving baskets). The former willows are wooded, but the presence of species such as white willow, yellow willow, cat willow and almond willow still points to their former use and management as coppice. The plot was completely cleared for the last time in the 1950s.
