The old barns were used for agriculture in the 18th century, but now they are home to restaurants and retail stores. Events are held on the barn square, and there is a weekly market there every Saturday.

The history of the barn district goes back to 1756.
The barns were built as drive-through barns to store farmers' hay and straw.
Grain was threshed and hay was dried on the square.
Since 1871 the square has also been a festival site, as it still is today.
