Information board Via Rheini: In the early morning of May 12, 1525, the leader of the Swabian League army, called Bauernjörg, Georg Truchseß von Waldburg, with his troops consisting of 6000 infantrymen, 1200 lancers, and 18 larger cannons as well as numerous field guns, had marched from Weil im Schönbuch to Böblingen. 15,000 peasants had entrenched themselves near Böblingen and Sindelfingen. The peasants were confident of victory. However, when it came to an open field battle at the Goldberg, they often had only flight left. Thousands of peasants were killed by the battle-hardened Landsknechts.
