Construction time: 1937, inauguration on July 7, 1937 at 8.30 p.m. as the highlight of the festival week on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Mehlis 1862 e.V.
Client: Turnverein Mehlis 1862 e.V. Design: Willi Bauer, club leader
Management of the masonry work: Franz Nocke, with his helpers master mason Würtz and mason assistant Neupert; Sculpture by Wilhelm Morlock

The monumental-looking memorial stone in the form of a blunt pyramid, adorned with the head picture of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, and its outdoor facilities were erected in a voluntary work by members of the gymnastics club. The only costs were for the wagon, stone carving and demanding masonry work. In 1961 the system was restored by the gymnastics and provided with new inscription boards. The view of the city and the mountain range of the Thuringian Forest is impressive.
The monument was erected in memory of the initiator of the German gymnastics movement Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778-1852), also known as gymnastics father Jahn.
