The reserve encompasses a variety of coastal habitats: from the pine/evergreen woodland (dominated by pines like Pinus pinaster and evergreen oaks/lecci), through “lame” (seasonally-waterlogged depressions), to fixed and mobile dunes and the beach itself.

The dune vegetation is quite special: pioneer plants, dune grasses, stabilized dune shrubs, and also a distinctive “ginepro coccolone” (juniper) formation.

Historically, before the 1700s, the area was more paludous (swampy) with ontani (alders), frassini, lecci; the pine forests were planted later as part of reclamation efforts.
