The 20 meter high lighthouse was built in 1875 and is red with a white band. It is made of cast iron like many others in Holland. The light of the tower is special because it has three colors: red, white and green. These are separated from each other by screens. This means that only one color can be recognized from the ship at a time, and if a captain sees the red area, he has to change course immediately.

Lighthouse Het Noorderhoofd is also called Lighthouse 't Lage Licht. Together with the high lighthouse of Westkapelle, this tower forms a line of lights. A skipper must keep these lights in line to sail to and through the Oostgat without problems. It was the first round cast-iron tower in the Netherlands.
