Grinderslev Monastery was founded around 1175 by Augustinian monks. With the introduction of the Reformation, it became the property of the crown as a secular fief. In 1581, Frederick II transferred the manor house to Christoffer Lykke, in whose family it remained until the end of the 17th century. During this time, the monastery building was demolished and a new farm was built on the old foundations. The monastery church, dedicated to Saint Peter, remained untouched and today serves as the parish church of the Grinderslev community.
